Mindful in March: Simple Ways to Slow Down and Be More Present
March is almost here, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to hit pause, take a deep breath, and lean into mindfulness. If you’re anything like me, the start of the year has been a whirlwind, and suddenly, we’re already almost three months in—how did that happen?!
That’s why we are preparing for next month, and we’re focusing on being Mindful in March—intentionally slowing down, paying attention to the little moments, and making space for what truly matters. The good news? Mindfulness doesn’t mean meditating for hours a day or moving to a mountaintop (unless that’s your thing, in which case, please take me with you). It’s about small, simple shifts in your daily routine that help you be more present.
And to make this journey even easier, we’re diving into mindfulness together with the I Am Mindful: A 28-Day Guided Journal—your daily companion for cultivating mindfulness, gratitude, and self-awareness. More on that in a minute, but first, let’s get into tangible, realistic ways to bring more mindfulness into your everyday life.
Why Mindfulness Matters (And Why March is the Perfect Time to Start)
Mindfulness isn’t just a trendy buzzword—it’s a game-changer for your mental, emotional, and even physical well-being. Studies show that practicing mindfulness can:
• Reduce stress and anxiety
• Improve focus and productivity
• Strengthen relationships
• Boost overall happiness
And here’s the best part: you don’t need extra time to be mindful. You just need to shift the way you go through your day.
5 Simple Ways to Be More Mindful This March
1. Start Your Day the Night Before
Raise your hand if you start some days with no clue of what’s going on and what you need to accomplish. (No shame, I’ve been there.) But the problem? Starting your day without a plan leads to reactive living where you spend the day simply reacting to whatever comes up.
Instead, take just 15 minutes in the evening to:
Look at your calendar and review what will happen the next day.
Brain dump anything you need to do/prepare for the next day.
Do all the necessary preparations even if you don’t feel like it.
Narrow down 1-3 things you will accomplish tomorrow no matter what.
Small shift, BIG impact.
2. Eat (and Drink) Mindfully
Ever finish a meal and realize you didn’t actually taste it? Same. Mindful eating is about slowing down and actually enjoying your food instead of rushing through it.
Try this:
• Put your phone away while you eat.
• Take a deep breath before your first bite.
• Pay attention to the flavors, textures, and smells.
• Sip your coffee like it’s the best thing you’ve ever had.
This simple habit helps you feel more satisfied and grounded—plus, it makes every meal feel a little more special.
3. Pause and Breathe (Yes, Right Now!)
We all get caught up in the go-go-go of life. But pausing—even for just 30 seconds—can make a world of difference.
Try this:
• Set a reminder on your phone to take a mindful pause three times a day.
• Close your eyes, take three slow breaths, and notice how you feel.
• Bring your attention back to the present moment.
That’s it! Just a few deep breaths can calm your nervous system and help you reset.
4. Turn Everyday Tasks into Mindfulness Moments
Mindfulness doesn’t have to be another thing on your to-do list—it can fit seamlessly into things you already do.
• Folding laundry? Feel the warmth of the clothes, listen to the soft sounds.
• Driving? Notice the colors of the sky, the rhythm of your breath.
• Taking a shower? Let the water hitting your skin bring you into the present moment.
Any moment can be a mindfulness moment if you choose to be fully in it.
5. Journal Your Way to More Mindfulness
This one’s my favorite (and a total game-changer). Journaling helps you slow down, process your thoughts, and be more intentional. Plus research has shown that people who write down their goals are 42 % more likely to achieve them than those who don't. That includes smaller, daily goals.
Not sure what to write? That’s where the I Am Mindful: A 28-Day Guided Journal comes in! 🎉
This journal makes mindfulness easy and doable with:
• Daily prompts to help you reflect and stay present
• Gratitude exercises to shift your mindset
• Space for freewriting, doodling, or just brain-dumping all the things
