Sometimes, the smallest actions can spark the biggest changes. For me, the inspiration behind our I Am journal series began on a day when I chose gratitude over the sadness I’d been carrying. After an unexpectedly good day with friends and uplifting events, I still found myself struggling as I lay awake at night. That’s when I remembered a rule I used to share with my students: allow yourself 10 minutes to feel the hard stuff, then it’s time to move forward. I realized my own “10 minutes” had stretched too long. In that moment, I grabbed a pale blue notebook on my nightstand and began listing everything I was grateful for. Page by page, gratitude lifted the heaviness, bringing clarity and calm. The next day, I knew exactly what I wanted to do—create a gratitude journal to help others find the same peace and perspective.
